IT-TRANS conference and exhibition carried out exclusively digitally

UITP and Messe Karlsruhe draw consequences from soaring infection rates worldwide

The rapidly increasing number of corona infections, the expansion of risk areas worldwide and the fact that also the Karlsruhe region has recently been declared a risk area, have led the organisers of IT-TRANS, International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and Messe Karlsruhe, to refrain from holding IT-TRANS from 1 to 3 December 2020 as an on-site live event. The organisers on their shared decision: "We have been following the developments very closely in recent weeks and have been in constant communication with the relevant authorities. Their latest assessment made it clear to us that a cancellation of the on-site event is unfortunately inevitable”, state Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary General of UITP, and Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Messe Karlsruhe.

“We have repeatedly adapted our sophisticated hygiene and safety concept, which has already been commended by the authorities for its high quality. It complies with all currently applicable regulations. We have done everything to ensure that IT-TRANS can take place successfully under corona conditions”, said Mohamed Mezghani and Britta Wirtz. “Nevertheless, containing the pandemic has top priority. Our decision takes into account the overall protection of the population and everyone involved in IT-TRANS. We acknowledge this with the transformation of IT-TRANS into a purely digital exhibition and conference.”

Interactive platform with live streams, product presentations and direct calls

An interactive event-community platform will enable the exchange of information and knowledge between all IT-TRANS players: Exhibitors, delegates, and speakers will be able to create a detailed profile and enter information about their respective companies or their personal interests. Thus, each participant will be able to find partners with the same interests via matchmaking and meet with them virtually. Product counselling interviews, document exchange, speed dating and group discussions are also virtually possible to the full extent: via chat or video. The exhibitor presentations as part of the Market Update Forums will also be available via live stream. Moreover, conference delegates can follow the conference lecture programme and take part in discussion panels. It is always possible to hand in questions through the platform. This way, the exchange of knowledge among the global public transport community will continue to be guaranteed.

Strong need for digitalisation of urban mobility

"The relevance of digitalisation in the public transport sector has become even clearer in recent months. For this reason, IT-TRANS is a much-needed network hub and economic driver for the global mobility community, but above all it is an important exchange platform for discussing and developing digital tools for future urban mobility," explain Mohamed Mezghani and Britta Wirtz. "We are therefore pleased that IT-TRANS will be able to fulfill its function as an innovation hub, albeit purely digitally, and that we can support the industry in these challenging times.”

“UITP and Messe Karlsruhe regret the circumstances that have arisen from the confusing situation in the wake of the pandemic that has affected all our exhibitors, exhibition visitors and conference participants. We appreciate their loyalty in these difficult times.”
