TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe becomes UITP’s first partnership region worldwide
IT-TRANS is the cornerstone of a new liaison office and regional training centre
The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and leading mobility actors in the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion yesterday signed a partnership agreement entitled UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership.
The UITP has so far not entered into Mobility Innovation Partnerships in this form with any other regions. UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani explains: “The city of Karlsruhe has a welldeserved international reputation as an area of great innovation in the mobility field. UITP has always recognised the importance of cooperating with leaders in technology and by launching the UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership with Karlsruhe Technology Region, we’re continuing that commitment. Our newest liaison office and regional training centre will be the interface between UITP and TRK and will further connect our members to Karlsruhe as the leading tech hub, offering them opportunities to develop skills and knowledge.” The Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion thus gains a completely unique selling proposition and will be even more strategically and intensively integrated into the worldwide UITP partner network and its innovation projects in the future.
Showcase region for modern mobility
Many years of close collaboration are the basis of this partnership between TRK and UITP. Their affiliation is closely linked to Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre because the focus of their previous cooperation was IT-TRANS, the International Exhibtion and Conference on Intelligent Urban Transport Systems. TRK member companies have already presented their digital mobility solutions at a joint stand fair at IT-TRANS, which has taken place in Karlsruhe since 2008. “IT-TRANS brings the global elite of the public transport industry to Karlsruhe every two years and thus laid the foundation for our close relationship with our co-organizer UITP. The Mobility Innovation Partnership is an important building block that will further heighten Karlsruhe’s international visibility and its competence in the areas of mobility and IT. We and our strong regional partners can take pride in this together”, says Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH.
In addition to bilateral cooperation with UITP, the partners from the TRK also presented themselves jointly at the UITP World Congress in Montreal in 2017. They will also participate at the World Congress in Stockholm in June 2019, where their presence will include a joint stand, a delegation headed by Karlsruhe’s Lord Mayor Frank Mentrup, and a session in the congress.
Besides the TechnologyRegion Karlsruhe GmbH and the Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH (KMK), the founding partners of the UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership are: INIT, PTV GROUP, Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (Karlsruhe Public Transport Association, KVV) with Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (Albtal Transport Corporation, AVG) and Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe Transport Company, VBK), Kand IT-TRANS, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe High Performance Centre for Mobility Research), Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, the FZI Research Centre
for Information Technology, and the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Die UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership showcases TechnologyRegion Karlsruhe als innovationsstarke Mobilitätsregion. A UITP liaison office and a regional training centre for UITP training courses and demonstrations are to be established in Karlsruhe for this purpose. Participants at the centre will be able to find out about system solutions for traffic design and optimisation from leading global companies such as INIT or the PTV Group, or learn about the latest developments in networked and automated driving and alternative vehicle drives.
Die UITP – (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) is the International Association of Public Transport and a passionate champion of sustainable urban mobility. It is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes. UITP has 1,600 member companies coming from 99 countries. The members are public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, research institutes and the public transport supply and service industry.
IT-TRANS, International Exhibition and Conference on Intelligent Urban Transport Systems, is aimed at all players in the public transport sector and in particular at decision-makers from transport authorities and representatives of the private sector, government and professional associations. More than 260 international companies and service providers will present their latest products at the exhibition. At the three-day conference, international speakers will be showcasing innovations in various sessions, workshops and presentations, and will be providing recommendations for the practical implementation of digital solutions in public transport. It is organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH.
