Taxi & Ride-hailing Conference and Exhibition to be held in Karlsruhe for the first time

Parallel to IT-TRANS

Having previously been held in London and Dubai, the Taxi & Ride-hailing Conference and Exhibition is to come to Karlsruhe in 2020. The event will be held parallel to IT-TRANS at Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre between 3 and 5 March.

One of the biggest developments during the last five years, and a change that has affected the taxi sector more than most, has been the emergence of ride-hailing companies. The sector get-together at Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre is the only event worldwide to focus on both the taxi and the ride-hailing business. It examines in great detail the challenges that will be faced by the sector in future and how these can be resolved. Decision-makers from transport authorities, acknowledged taxi experts and sector leaders from all over the world are invited to share their knowledge and to interact with trade visitors.

In an independent conference, the event will facilitate discussion on aspects such as the use of artificial intelligence by taxi operators and the sustainable integration of these transport services into public transport systems as well as regulatory aspects. In addition to the panel discussions and presentations, exhibitors will be demonstrating special taxi and ride-hailing solutions within the IT-TRANS exhibition. There will also be two presentation slots in the Market Update Forums there. An estimated 150 international experts are expected to attend the conference and exhibition, where the focus will be on this cornerstone of urban mobility

IT-TRANS offers ideal platform for taxi and ride-hailing

Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Messe Karlsruhe

The Taxi & Ride-hailing Conference and Exhibition is an ideal addition to IT-TRANS, the world’s leading event to be dedicated to sustainable and digitally connected urban mobility, which will be taking place at the same time. Both industry gatherings are being organised by UITP (International Association of Public Transport) and KMK. Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Messe Karlsruhe, commented: “At IT-TRANS, we bring together the international public transport elite in Karlsruhe every two years. But this is not the only reason why we – after Dubai and London – have been chosen as the perfect venue for the Taxi & Ride-hailing Conference and Exhibition. The Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion is Europe’s third largest IT cluster and has long been a global pioneer in future-oriented public transport. This is why we are delighted to be able to take our partnership with UITP to the next level and to add this important component to the global meeting of public transport providers.

At IT-TRANS 2018, moovel tested its on-demand ride-sharing service in a pilot phase. In 2020, this topic will have its own platform with the affiliation of the Taxi & Ride-hailing Conference and Exhibition to IT-TRANS.

Public transport is becoming increasingly digital given the growing need for individuality and comfort among passengers and also because transport means are becoming increasingly diverse and networked. Taxis and above all ride-hailing services are a key part of this multimodality and play an important role on the first and last mile.

Kaan Yildizgöz, Senior Director UITP

“Holding the Taxi and Ride-Hailing Conference and Exhibition alongside IT-TRANS shows the important role that taxi transportation and ride-hailing companies have to play in the discussion concerning the future direction of urban mobility. Held under the thematic heading Smart Personal Rides, the event will be the only one of its kind to represent both the taxi and ride-hailing sectors. I would encourage everyone with a vested interest in the revolution of the taxi sector to join us in Karlsruhe next March.” Kaan Yildizgöz, Senior Director UITP and author of the book: Taxis In the Era of Digitalisation.
