Starting with the most famous examples such as the Oyster card in London and the Octopus card in Hong Kong, smart cards for contactless payment have been popular front-office payment solutions in public transport for many years. Indeed, Transport for London credits the introduction of the Oyster card responsible, at least in part, for a growth in public transport usage by 45%, coupled with a decrease in car usage of 6.7%, from 2000-2010. Despite developments in other areas, notably applications for mobile hand-held devices, smart cards remain a firm feature in the public transport payment scene. IT-TRANS welcomes exhibitors showcasing a variety of solutions for contactless paper tickets and labels, contact/contactless multi-application cards, RFID smart paper labels, and all innovations related to the smart card.
